| Our Quilting Ministry began when our former
pastor, Rev. Herring’s wife, Judy, asked our ladies’
Bible Study and Prayer group if we would be willing to
make a quilt to show love and support for a church
pastor and his family in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
The only one in our group with any “quilting
skills” was our current pastor, Veronica Gonsior. With
great concern and prayers, our willing group, with
limited skills ,decided to take on this project. After
picking out a “fool proof” pattern it was decided that
we might hone our skills by making a love gift of a
going away/ retirement quilt for Pastor Bob and Judy.
Literally, blood, sweat, tears, and prayers went into
that first quilt yet it encouraged us to take on and
finish our second quilt project for the Prince Edward
Island family.
With finishing that quilt, one of the more
skeptical quilters in our group was amazed at what we
could do with prayer and God’s help and inquired if the
group would be willing to help make a quilt for her
sister, who was out of state and going through a 3-year
heart-wrenching journey of betrayal, disillusionment and
pain. Thus, our compassionate Quilting Ministry truly
began. We stitched that quilt with our love, support and
prayers that The Comforter of all would sustain her,
warm her, and wrap her in His loving embrace. Since then
we have made several for the elderly, grieving, sick, or
those in need of encouragement.
Offering encouragement and support opened the door
for a new leg of our quilting ministry when several of
our young women in the community were expecting babies.
The church wanted to show love and concern for these
women and then was born our baby quilting ministry where
we have since welcomed many new additions to families,
congratulating them on the joy and new beginnings a baby
brings.
Congratulations and new beginnings gave us a
vision of our next wing of our quilting ministry when we
began making quilts to congratulate and show our pride
for the accomplishments of our graduating high school
seniors. Our quilts were intended to be taken with them
to college, the military or wherever God’s hand led them
to new beginnings and as with our compassionate ministry
quilting they were sewn with love, prayers for
protection, guidance and the knowledge that their family
and friends back home were supporting them.
Other quilts will continue, some will be made to
raise funds for the quilting ministry itself , and
others in support of local charities, but always sewn
with love, prayers and support for the recipient.
If you would like to be a part of our Quilting
Ministry please contact us; there is room for those who
iron, those who rip seams, those who sew, those who
provide fabric or donations and most of all, those who
pray.
